A Cupid Cutie

I am a sucker when it comes to photos and my child. Miss K is so use to a camera now that she doesn't even flinch when the flash goes off. I got a coupon in the mail for Picture People and thought...why not? It's a free photo. Well, I mananged to get out of there only $55 poorer than when I went in, but I do love this photo. We could not get her to smile for anything. She just kind of smirks. My friend Kennington said that she does that "Elvis" smile with one side of her mouth. She wasn't bothered by the wings until she caught sight of them out of the corner of her eye and then she wanted them off. And it took a lot of convincing to get her to give up the arrow. She wasn't too happy about it at all! All in all...I wouldn't mind getting shot by Cupid's Arrow if cupid was really this cute!

Baby needs a new pair of shoes!

And she finally got them. Her Grandma Linda took pity on her poor shoeless granddaughter and took us all to the mall to buy Miss K some new shoes. Three pair of cute shoes from Stride Rite. And they make her look like such a big girl when she is wearing them! I was so giggly when she was wearing them for the first time. I ordered her some Robeez from a friend who can get them at cost for me, but I am not sure when they will be coming in. If I would have let her, my mother in law would have bought Miss K one pair of every shoes they had in the store. We had a fun time shopping. I don't think Miss K had a good time. I am thinking that she did not inherit my shopping gene. Brian will be thrilled to learn that. I think he is looking for someone to surgically remove mine!

Six months ago today....

I got up at the crack of dawn to head to the hospital knowing that when I came home, we would finally be a family of three. Six months ago today I fell in love for the second time in my life.

It is so hard to believe the Miss K is already 6 months old. It just seems like last week I was screaming and running around with a pregnancy test in my hand. Most of the people who read this blog know about the long and heartbreaking journey that Brian and I went through to get to the place that we are today. Every night when I put my beautiful little angel to bed, I thank God that he sent her to me. She is such an amazing baby and has bought so much joy and love into our home. I never imagined that I could love someone as much as I love that pudgy little girl. We are so blessed to have her in our lives. Before you know it, we will be celebrating Miss K's 1st birthday!

This past week has been great. She started sitting up on her own for a couple of weeks, but now she can bend at the waist and sit back up on her own. She FINALLY rolled over. She hates being on her tummy though, so I don't look for it to happen often. And the giggling. Good gravy! She is Princess Giggle Box. The other night Brian did something and she giggled for a good 10 minutes everytime she looked at him. It was great! Then he picked her up and started tickling and it went on even longer! It's so great to see Brian with her. She loves him and the minute he walks in the door in the evenings from work, she strains her neck to see him and demands his immediate attention. I am pretty sure that she thinks he hung the moon and I know for sure that he feels the exact same way about her.

An awesome man

I am lucky enough to be married to a wonderful man. Brian and I are totally opposites in just about everything, but our love for each other and the love for our daughter. I always knew that he would make a wonderful father, but I never imagined just how wonderful he would actually be. Since the moment that Miss K was born, Brian has been head over heels for his little princess. He gives her a bath every night and I will never forget the first time I heard him singing to her. He had made up a bathtime song and he was singing it. I thought my heart with burst just listening to him. So, when I saw him on the bed singing Miss K a song and using her Peekaboo Kitty puppet, I had to snap a quick picture. He is such an amazing husband, a wonderful father, and an awesome man.

My Mom got a job!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes, I am WAY excited about this. When she moved here, the agreement was to stay with us for two months. She had to find a job and then get out on her own. She had an interview the day after we got back from Texas, but nothing came from that. On a whim on day while we were in Target, I told her to go put her application in. They interviewed her the same day. They called her back in for a second interview last Tuesday. She interviewed with two different people. They told her they would let her know on Friday. She never heard from them. It was a long weekend and she was really depressed about it. She called the HR guy at 8:59 this morning to find out if they made a decision. They told her to come in at 11 to sign all the paperwork. She was jumping for joy when she hung up. She is so excited. It's a full time job working 8-5, Monday - Friday. She will be doing the displays at the store. And Target is one place I shop at about three times a week! Yeah for my mom!

I love this photo...

I was going through the MANY photos that we took while we were in Texas on vacation. I came across this one that my stepmom took. I remember seeing Miss K without her clothes on and asked Brian what was going on and he told me that Maria (my stepmom) wanted to take pictures of Miss K's rolls. The day after this photo was taken, my stepmom called my dad upset. She showed the photos to people at work and they were just going on and on about how adorable Miss K was. Well, my stepmom is from El Salvador and she was raised with some superstitions. One of them is that if someone comments on how cute your baby is, they have to touch them or bad luck will befall them. She was convinced that something bad was going to happen to Miss K. I guess I never noticed it before but that same day while we were out shopping, a hispanic family came up to me at the mall while we were shopping and was asking me about Miss K's cart cover. They went on and on about how cute she was and before they left, all five of them touched her foot. (I know that Tracie is probably freaking out right about now!) My stepmom asked me what they said and I told them. She looked at me in horror...until I told her that they all touched her foot. It's all strange to me, but that is the way she was raised and also the way my father was raised!

My attempt at taking Miss K's picture...

I am trying really hard to keep up with the "once a day" photos. Note to not leave strap of camera hanging while trying to photograph baby. I can't believe that she is going to be 6 months old in less than two weeks. It's amazing how fast the time has flown by.

Everyone in the house but me is currently sick. My mother, who is staying with us, has it really bad. I do hope that she gets better fast and that I don't end up catching it. Having my mother here has been stressful for me. I am not use to having someone at home with me all the time. In the beginning she was trying to "mother" Miss K, so I finally gently told her that I was pretty certain that I knew what I was doing since she has made it the first 5 months and she seems to be doing just fine. She has backed off. She also went for her second interview at Target on Tuesday. She is suppose to hear back from them on Friday. I am really praying that she gets this job. She has been here for 10 days. We told her that she could only stay with us for 8 weeks. So, getting a job for her is key to her staying here. Keeps your fingers crossed!

I'm a bad mommy...

I wounded my child today. It was tramatic for her and me. She was riding in a cart at the store for the first time ever. She likes to bend her head back and look at stuff upside down. I's strange, but if it keeps her happy.... She had her head to the side and leaning back. Mommy wasn't paying attention and I bumped her head into another shopping cart. I looked at her with wide eyes, but didn't "freak out". She looked at me with wide eyes and was very quiet...for about a millisecond. Then she screamed like I was hanging her up by her toenails. When I finally got her calmed down, I looked at her face and saw nothing. I thought I had bumped her face into the cart. Nope. She now has a big red mark on her head. The first thing I told my Mother was, "Brian is going to kill me." Have I ever mentioned how protective he is of her? I kept willing her hair to get thicker on the drive from the store to the house so he wouldn't notice it! He gets home from work and she is in her high chair and my Mother is feeding her dinner. I hear Brian say, "Oh, did she scratch her eye?" Yep. Did she also put that lovely gash in the top of her head too? At this point I start bawling and trying to explain what happened and please don't be mad at me.... He just looked at me like I was nuts and say, "stuff happens". I about fell on the floor. I was convinced he was going to read me the riot act.

On a more positive note, I've been keeping up with daily photos of Miss K. They aren't great, but I am taking them. This is one that I took the other night. I bought her a pink Old Navy cap for Christmas. She prefers to wear it her daddy.

Happy New Year!

Okay...I know I am a few days late, but things have been busy here. We left Texas on New Years Day. It took us about 14 hours, but we made a couple of stops so that Miss K could stretch out and not be confined to the car seat for 14 straight hours! The drive wasn't too bad. We listened to one of those books on tape, so that kept us all occupied for 9 hours. We were so ready to be home. We came home with a truck full of stuff, stuff strapped to the roof of the truck and an extra person. My mom is staying with us for 8 weeks. She is moving to Tennessee and we are letting her stay here with us for 8 weeks so that she can find a job. Brian and I will help her get a place to live and get back on her feet. It is going to be different because I've not seen her in over six years and now I have a baby. I've had to tell her not to "mother" Miss K so much because I don't want Miss K to get use to her being here all the time because she isn't going to be. She is looking for a job and has already had one interview. She also has an appointment with an agency on Monday morning. I am determined to find her a job so that she can get back on her feet. Life hasn't been easy for her. Most of it is her own fault, but I truly think that she does want to have a better life. She just needs someone to give her a chance.

Miss K and I are slowly getting back into our routine of everyday life. We started back at Gymboree today. It was all new babies. Everyone else was ready to move up because they were already six months and older. Miss K isn't. Oh well! We will see some of them when we move up to the next level class! It's still lots of fun! Next week we head back to MOPS and we are really looking forward to that!

I made a resoultion that I was going to take at least one photo of Miss K everyday. I missed the 1st and the 2nd. Those days were spent traveling and then recovering from the traveling. I've not really sat down and made my resolutions yet for this year because I want to sit down and really put some thought into what I want for my family and myself this year. It's easy to say that I am going to lose weight, be more organized and the same old things I do every year. I want this year to actually count. The one resolution that I know for sure I am going to make is to find a new church. We had an awesome church before we moved to Tennessee. We were very active in our small community group from our very large church. When we moved, we had every intention of finding a new church. But, I traveled a lot and it was hard to visit churches when you aren't home. Then I lost Jonah and I couldn't face going to church. I never blamed God for what happened, but I was a very depressed. But, I have been blessed with a miracle and it has made me realize that I need to get back to church. And, she doesn't know this, but if she reads this post, she friend Tracie has been a bit of inspiration for me getting back to church. Reading her blog about her favorite sermons really touched me and made me realize how much I need God in my life even more now. Thank you Tracie!

Sorry for the rambling......
