Betty Boop

I rescued this cutie from an awful lady on Pettus road four years ago. When she came to us, she looked like one large ball of mud, dirt and anything else you could imagine stuck in her fur. My original plan when I brought her home was to get her cleaned up and to find her a home. She ended up becoming a part of our family. She was always a quiet little dog, but she tended to be agressive. So, when we brought Miss K home from the hospital we were really concerned how she would handle it. We needed not worry because they became the best of friends. Last week Betty hurt her leg while we were visiting my inlaws in Michigan. I honestly think the leg was just one of the many things that was wrong with her. She hadn't been the same dog for the past six months. Brian was planning on taking her to the vet first thing Saturday morning because she had developed a sore of the inside of her leg. Betty passed away Saturday morning in her sleep before we were able to get her to the vet. We are devastated. How do you explain to an almost 3 year old that her puppy, her constant companion since she was a baby is not coming home? I am a very emotional person, so I've been crying on and off since Saturday morning. I went shopping with a friend and I was looking for new drapes for my dining room. I said that I didn't want to spend $100 on one panel because Betty Boop has a tendency to eat my curtains. Then I remembered that she wouldn't be chewing on my curtains anymore and I started crying in the middle of the store. I'm just very sad. I miss my puppy.

Oh I am so very sorry to hear this! I haven't personally read it, but I've heard the book "Dog Heaven" by Cynthia Rylant is helpful in explaining such tragedies to children.

Sending you and your family big hugs,
Amber
